Who are the Nottingham Panthers?

The Nottingham Panthers is a professional Ice-Hockey team based in Nottingham, England. The team was founded in 1946 and has been one of the most successful and well-known ice hockey teams in the UK. Their 70+ year history makes them the second oldest team in the EIHL, just behind the Fife Flyers who were formed in 1938.

One of the defining features of the Nottingham Panthers is their success on the ice. Over the years, the team has won numerous championships and awards, including the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) regular season championship, the EIHL playoff championship, and the Challenge Cup. The Nottingham Panthers are also the only team to taste success on the European stage, winning the IIHF Continental Cup in the 2016/17 season. Due to their victory they earned a place in the 2017/18 Champions Hockey League, becoming the only EIHL team to make it past the group stages by topping their group despite fierce competition from Finnish side TPS, Swiss side Bern and Czech side Mountfield HK.

A key factor in the success of the Nottingham Panthers has been the talented and skilled players who have suited up for the team over the years. The team has had a number of legendary players, including Paul Adey, Sam Herr, and, now manager, Corey Neilson. These players brought a combination of skill, determination, and leadership to the ice, and helped the team to achieve its success.More recently, the Nottingham Panthers have continued to attract top talent from around the world such as Matt Myers, Alex Dubeau, and Albin Lindgren.

Another important aspect of the Nottingham Panthers is the support of the local community. The team has a large and dedicated fanbase that supports them through thick and thin. This support has been instrumental in helping the team to remain competitive and successful, and has also helped to create a positive and welcoming environment for the players and fans. The Panthers play their home games at the National Ice Centre, which has a capacity of 7,000 spectators.

Despite their success on the ice, the Nottingham Panthers, like many of the teams in the EIHL, have faced numerous challenges throughout their history. One of the biggest challenges has been the lack of consistent funding and support for the sport of ice hockey in the UK. This has made it difficult for the team to secure stable funding and attract top talent to the club. However, the team has remained resilient and has continued to push forward, overcoming these challenges through hard work and determination.

The Nottingham Panthers are a professional ice hockey team with a rich history of success and a commitment to player development. Despite facing numerous challenges, the team has remained resilient and has continued to be a top team in the UK. The Panthers are one of the most respected and well-known ice hockey teams in the UK, with a history of winning and a commitment to excellence, the Nottingham Panthers look to return to the highs of the mid-2010s under the supervision of CEO Omar Pacha.
